Racism Vs. The World

Authors Note: This is a piece about racism and how it should never occur because it is such a bad thing in the world.

If you saw someone being racist towards another person what would you do? People tend to be racist towards other people and that is what happened in the stories “After you my Dear Alphonse” and “Adventures of an Indian Princess”.  There are a lot of racist things that happen in these two stories.

Such as in the two stories the parents are just alike. The parents are being racist and don’t know it. They think they aren’t, but they really are. During the story “After you my Dear Alphonse” the mom said she was disappointed because Boyd didn’t take the clothes she offered him. The mom didn’t even realize she was calling Boyd poor. In “Adventures of an Indian Princess” the parents where telling her to go take a picture with an Indian, she didn’t want to but her parents made her take the picture even though the guy wasn’t an Indian. There are more reasons why they were being racist.

Another reason why they were being racist is the mother told Boyd to eat as much as he wanted because she thought Boyd didn’t get to eat much. Therefore the mother is being racist and saying Boyd is poor and doesn’t eat a lot. The parents of the kid in “Adventure of an Indian Princess” the parents made her go to an Indian camp when she didn’t want to. The parents where saying that it is good to be around people of her kind. There are many more ways that they are being racist, but they also have their differences.

In the story “After you my Dear Alphonse”  the mother was being racist towards another kid rather than her own and in the story “Adventures of an Indian Princess” she was being racist towards a kid that she adopted so she was kind of there kid but it was still a very mean thing to do to them.

The Stories had many similarities but a little differences. The racism in both of these stories are horrific. They are so bad the parents should have noticed them. Racism is a thing that shouldn’t exists on the world anymore because it is such a terrible thing. many people don't know that they are being racist.

Ribbons

Along time ago in china when a girl child was born the mother would bend her feet. They thought this would make her more beautiful and make rich guys like them. The moms would tie a bow on their feet so it would stop the circulation and make them feel less pain.

But here in America we go through different things such as being bulimic and anorexic to make ourselves look pretty, but it doesn’t help it just makes us look different and we can almost die from these two things. The ribbons meant different things to both of the siblings, but it brought the grandmother and the kid together. It reminded the grandmother of what happened to her feet when she was younger and the ribbons meant what the kid loved to do…… Dance.

A Monsters Strength

Authors note: This is about a text analysis about the book "Monster" by Walter Dean Myers.

What do you think about what Steve has been going through in the story "Monster"? There were so many emotions in this story such as sadness, scared, and worry.  The story also shows a great amount of strength, such as Steve being accused for robbing the drug store even though he was only an aquatint  with the person that did rob the drug store. He just had to have strength in himself so he could get through that. Without strength Steve or his family would not be able to survive what he has went through.

Strength is a very important characteristic to have throughout this story, because he would not have made it through the things that he did. Strength is one of those characteristics you need to make it through everything such as a family member passing away or a friend that you have known for a really long time move away. Not only did Steve need strength to survive what he had to go through but many other people had to go through it too.

James King had to go through just as much as Steve did, but James actually committed the crime and killed the clerk. He also encouraged Steve to rob the drug store with James, but Steve had strength in himself and didn't do it. Steve had a lot of strength throughout the story which is a very important characteristic to have

If Steve had no strength in himself he would have been guilty of committing the crime, but he did have strength in himself and he was proven to be not guilty. Therefore strength is very important to have even if it was something really easy to go through, but Steve went through a lot more than anyone has.

After You My Dear Alphonse

In this story Mrs. Wilson is being very nice to Boyd but just a little too nice. She is so nice that she is being racist towards Boyd. She starts saying that she has some extra clothes that she can give to him, but he says no to the clothes and she says she is disappointed that he didn't take the clothes. Mrs. Wilson was treating Boyd like he is poor but he really isn't that poor.

A Clean well Lighted place respnse

the angles in the story were so blank and made me not want to watch it because we have a short attention span. The music made scenes more dramatic, such as when the old guy walks out of the café. That part made me sad and made me want to give the old guy a hug.

The younger waiter was very mean to the old guy which also made me want to give him a hug.  The waiter told him he should have killed himself last week. Which was not a very nice thing to say even though he is deaf, it’s still mean.

Sellfish

The young waiter reminds me of someone that I know that is not a very good person because he lives with his mom and he does bad things like steal stuff. He also yells at his mom and takes money from her because he doesn't have a job.

Thank you Ma'am

Authors Note: This piece is a text analysis about the story "Thank you Ma'am", Talking about faith and trust.

If you want a story with faith and trust, “Thank you Ma’am” is the story to read. During the story “Thank you Ma’am” Roger attempts to steal money from a large women, but the women stops him and brings him to her home where he cleans his face gets dinner and some money for the blue suede shoes he was dying to get. Faith and trust are two major themes in this story for many reasons.
“Thank you Ma’am” is a story that could treat you a life lesson about trust. An example of trust would be,  Roger is  a fourteen year old boy that was trying to get some blue suede shoes at a store. So he tries to steal money from a lady, but the lady catches him and brings him to her home. There he had many chances to leave but he didn't because he started to have trust in her, such as her feeding Roger because there is no one at his house to feed him.
Another reason, she also gave him money to get some groceries from the store for her, he easily could have taken the money and bought those blue suede shoes he wanted so badly, but he didn't because he doesn't want to be distrusted. Besides the trust between these two people there faith is also growing.
Faith between Roger and the lady began to grow stronger also. Roger had started to think that the lady wasn't so mean after all. She began to help him instead of yelling at him. She got him to clean his face, she fed him dinner, and gave him money to get the blue suede shoes. The end of the story he doesn't see her ever again and he could barely say thank you for all the stuff she did for him.
“Thank you Ma’am” is a great story to read about faith and trust because they show so much of it throughout the story. If he didn't try to steal the money and just asked her she would have gave it to Roger, because she knows what it was like to be a kid. Trust and faith are two major themes in this story.

Important Quote: Ransom and the Red Chief

"Red Chief," says I to the kid, "would you like to go home?" "Aw, what for?" Says he. This quote is a important quote because the kid is saying he doesn’t want to go home even though he got kidnapped. When the kid said that the story got a little confusing because he got kidnapped, like seriously who would want to get kidnapped and then say no I don’t want to go home.

Nothing Gold can Stay

There are 2 metaphors in the poem Nothing Gold can Stay. There is also a personification in this poem.  Today we will be focusing on 1 of the metaphors and the personification. We will focus on the metaphor first and then we will transition into the personification.

The metaphor we  are focusing on is “Natures first green is gold”. This metaphor describes that natures first green is a beautiful sight no matter what it looks like. The first green of nature is worth a lot and that what  the author feels this metaphors tone is. We still have the personification to go over.

The personification we will be working on is “So Eden sank to grief”. This personification tells us about nature losing its leaves and summer changing to fall. In the garden Eden he believes that it lost its color and looked sad.

When you read this poem you think that the leaves and the grass are coming back. You also think that summer is here and winter is gone. Also that trees, grass, and plants come back to life and that “Natures first green is gold”. But the poem is also saying that summer changing to fall that nature loses its beautiful colors.

So Nothing Gold can Stay is a popular poem that many people like and enjoy to read. Some people like analyzing text of certain poems and that is what I did in this poem for the people that want to know the tone of the metaphor and personification I have analyzed.

Another point of view

Percy Jackson and the Olympians is wrote from a 2nd person point of view. This story is wrote in different point of views but Percy Jackson is the main point of view. He influences his friends that help him on his journey to finding Zeus’s lightning bolt that has been stolen.

If this book were written from a different point of view It would have made me think differently about this book. This is a book that probably could only be wrote from Percy’s point of view because it is about a kid that is the son of Poseidon and Zeus’s lightning bolt has been stolen. So Percy and his friends have to find the bolt and return it to Zeus. He influences other characters in the story by not giving up even though he has a lot of tough times to go through he just doesn’t give up. By not giving up he influences others by them not giving up on Percy or giving up on themselves.

If the story was written from Annabeth’s point of view she would not have faced the medusa. The story would have probably ended right then and there but form Percy’s point of view he did face the medusa and killed her because he didn’t give up and neither did his friends because he influenced them by him getting hurt.

So if this book was wrote from a different point of view it would have been a different book and the book would not have as much action as it does now. Percy is a very unique character in the lighting thief.  So there u have it the book would be very different in another person’s point of view.

Will Vs. Percy

Both The Lightning Thief series and the Rangers Apprentice series are packed with suspenseful action and plot development.  Both feature both battle strategy and detailed descriptions of battles. Percy Jackson has more mythological characters. Although both series are fictional adventure stories, they both teach you something about history and culture. In Percy Jackson books you learn about Greek mythology, and in Ranger’s Apprentice books you learn about Medieval times.

Percy and Will have to face different creatures such as Percy having to fight a minotaur and Will having to fight wargals. Percy has many different things he has to learn not to be sad about such as his mom fought off the minotaur to help Percy escape to get to safety. Will had traveled to Arauel. But when they travel there they here that Morgarath has advised an attack. When Will and Horace travel to neighboring Celtica to deliver a message about the looming war, they find the area has been abandoned. Morgarath has enslaved the Celts and is using them to build a bridge that will allow his army to descend from the mountains and take Araluen by surprise. Along the way, Will and Horace find a terrified girl named Evanlyn hiding in bushes. The Wargals attacked her party, and she was the sole survivor. She also helps burn the bridge that the Skandians have built.

In both books there are 2 major battle scenes. Such as Will having to burn the bridge the Celts were forced to build. Will, Horace and Evanlyn had to fight to burn the bridge down which is a major battle in the Rangers Apprentice. If they had not burned the bridge Araluen might have been taken over by Morgarath. Percy also has a major battle such as facing Medusa one of the evilest creatures known to the gods. Percy and his friends have to find out a way to kill her. The only way you can kill her is by cutting her head off. That is exactly what he does to kill her. But if you look into her eyes you will turn to stone. That is the only challenge he has to face while the verses Medusa.

These 2 books have many differences but also have their similarities. Major battle scenes are books that will interest many different people. There are many different books to each series and they are all very good books but different plots and characters. All though they have differences they will always have similarities.

The Compare and Contrast Piece

There is a Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief book and movie. They both were amzing. The book is far better than the movie because it was more detailed than the movie. There was so many differences between them, but there was hardly anything the same about them.

There are a bunch of differences between the book and the movie. One of them was about how Percy Jackson fought Ares in the book. The book told us that Percy, Annabeth and Grover encountered with Ares. After Percy figured out that Ares was the one who put Zeus's master lightning bolt in the bag Ares gave him, Percy found himself fighting Ares on Santa Monica beach. Ares was also the one to blame about the disappearance of Hade’s helm of darkness. Till then, Percy Jackson challenged Ares to a battle. Percy won the battle and got the helm of darkness.

ln the movie, it didn't mention anything about Percy, Annabeth and Grover's encounter with Ares. lt also didn't mention anything about Hade’s helm of darkness being stolen. Percy Jackson didn't fight Ares. Instead of heading to Santa Monica after they got out of the underworld, they just went straight to the Empire State Building. Percy fought Luke instead of Ares.

There were only a few similarities between the book and the movie. One of them was that Percy and his accompanies got trapped inside the Lotus Casino/Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Each of them got in a trance because of how there was so many things they can do In the Casino.

Steve Harmon's point of view

In Monster the Steve Harmon is the main point of view in this story. The story is written in Steve Harmon’s point of view.  From this perspective, a lot of events and characters are described in a way that creates Steve’s mother to be sad that he has to go through this even though he is innocent. Fear is running through his mind as he is a suspect of the murder of the clerk and the robbing of the drug store.

One way that Steve Harmon’s point of view influences the reader's interpretation is how this perspective describes how he is innocent. When Steve says he is innocent and it’s kind of hard to believe him because he is an acquaintance with King. King is the man who shot the drug store clerk and he also robed the drug store. A little before the robbing of the drug store and the murder of the drug store clerk, a man saw him walk out of the drug store and he was a suspect.

However, the reader would feel a lot differently about Steve Harmon if the novel was written in the point of view of Petrocelli. For instance, the reader would react if she said that Steve was guilty without an explanation. They would most likely be confused because they would not know what was going on in the story without an explanation from Petrocelli

As you can see, the point of view of a story forces the reader to see just one side of an event or topic. In Monster, the narrator's perspective makes the reader feel that Steve is innocent. In the end of the story Steve Harmon is innocent

Book Vs. Movie

Authors Note: This piece is the comparisons and differences between a book and a movie.

Imagine when people used to ride horses for transportation, or used candles to light there house at night. That is how it is in the movie The Patriot. and in the book Give Me Liberty. There are many things that you can compare and contrast between the movie and book.

One of the first things that are the same is it is based around the same time in the movie and book. 1775–1783 was the time of the revolutionary war which is the time setting in both the story and movie. In Give me Liberty they talk of the war and how it works and The Patriot shows it. The biggest topic they bring up all the time between both of them is war, but they also have many differences too.

A difference between the movie and the book is they have different point of views. It is different in the book it’s a first person point of view, everything is being told by a slave who is traveling with a musician. The movies point of view is a third person so you see everything that is going on. Sense the story is told by a young kid he does not know as much so it does not talk about slavery as much.

In the movie it talks about slavery and shows them and free used to be slaves. The books talks about slaves and how the character is a slave, but does not talk about any free slaves. Both books talk about how if slaves join the war they will have their freedom given to them.

In conclusion they both have many things alike, but also has just as many different things. So they both have slaves that will be granted freedom. They are based in the same time, and talks about war a lot of the time.

Michael Oher: Prediction piece

I predict that Michael Oher will have a successful time of getting in college but first he will have to get his grades up. I think Michael will be able to get into college and play football because he is actually a really smart person when he tries.  All he needs is a tutor for a couple subjects and he will be able to get his grades up very fast.

He will also have a successful time in a football career because his new family got him into football. A football coach for a college saw him play in a video and said he was a very good player. So that coach showed the video to other coaches and they said we are going to try to get him on their team. But to do that he has to get his grades up.

During the book people were being racist towards him. In the beginning of the book he was playing basketball and some kids were making racist jokes about Michael and he flipped them off. Also closer to the end some more kids were making racist jokes about him again. Michael pushed him into a bookshelf.

My prediction was the Michael was going to have a successful time in college and football. Further in the book you will learn that he did have a successful career in football and he did get into a college. This was based on a true story. This story was a great but sad story.
